For students, alumni, faculty and staff

No question too big, too small, or too awkward.

We're bringing a qualified scholar to Waterloo as our Director of Muslim Life: someone you can ask about your deen, a big decision, or just life. Come say salam at our first town hall.

Things people ask us

Nothing is off the table. These are the kinds of questions our Director is here for.

  • Where do I pray at my co-op office?
  • I've been having doubts. Is that okay to talk about?
  • How do I make up the fasts I missed?
  • Is a mortgage ever an option for us?
  • How do I tell my parents I'm switching programs?
  • My salah has slipped this term. Where do I start again?
  • How do I bring my faith into my research?

Ustadh Basim Salim is our Director of Muslim Life, a scholar trained in traditional Islamic sciences from Amman, Jordan, along with an MBA from McMaster, who also knows what a Waterloo term actually feels like. Think of him as the older sibling you can ask anything.
